Preparing for the Tropics in the North Pole

Ok, Oslo isn’t really at the North Pole, or even in the arctic circle, but its further north than I’ve ever been. Its right around 60 degrees in fact which is about the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska for reference.

By the time you read this I will be in the air on my way to Bangkok. I can’t wait! While I did have some very nice weather particularly in the Alps, I am ready for the tropics.

I took a nice walk along the waterfront today. They call it the Promenade. It is a 6 km long stretch that the city of Oslo has been developing over the last 10 years or so, to bring the city back to its roots as a major port and seafaring city. Otherwise I’ve just been catching up on the blog and processing photos. There doesn’t seem to be much else to do in Oslo, honestly.

My flight leaves Monday at 1:30 PM local time and arrives at 6:55 AM Bangkok time. It is almost a 12 hour flight. I have been charging all my batteries, doing laundry and resting for the journey half way across the world. I scheduled this post for the time my flight departs, which is early in the morning for most of you.

Look for a post in a couple days once I get settled in to Bangkok. I think I will be in the city for a few days then I’ll probably be heading up north to Chiang Mai, but I don’t want to plan that far in advance.

No unfortunately it was cloudy both nights I was there, but supposedly you can see the Northern Lights as far south as Oslo when conditions are right.
